Fragile Flora
I have always found the world of plants to be a model and a source of inspiration, both in the esthetic and in the conseptual sense. A plant, while fragile looking, embodies an elusive equlibrium, evolved over many eons. We as human beings live in constant search of such equilibrium. I chose local Jerusalem wild plants as my subject matter. Jerusalem is my native city and my home, and living here formed my identity. Working with local Israeli flora takes me back to the Zionist discourse I grew up with: left wing Zionism which does not consider the land itself as the highest ideal but rather those living on this land, and even more so the manner in which they live. Materials and Technique: Pate de verre castings, Clear glass and black glass. Dimensions: flat castings, 2-20 cm.
