Knitting independence
My final project deals with household items. I looked for items that are important to me in daily life in the home environment. Our home envelops our belongings and they, themselves, become our home. Through my work, I discovered a special interest in the kitchen. A world knit with the scent of childhood memories, inherited from my family, my grandfather's kitchen. From here, I set out to research kitchenware. As a jeweler and mother, I have knit a collection of spoons symbolizing independence, gratitude, and giving feelings, continuing to foster old and new memories. In Islamic tradition, it is forbidden to eat with the left hand due to the perception that 'the devil participates in our food, and the blessing of the food is gone.' Being left-handed, I was confronted by the pressure of family and others to eat with my right hand. Eating left- handed symbolizes independence for me, so I let my daughter choose which hand to eat with, which allows her to exercise her freedom. Materials | wires, fine silver 999, and copper. Working techniques | viking knitting, and 3d printing, casting.
