Memory Wound
My work explores the difficult and complicated experience of being abandoned by my closest friends and family on my birthday. Feeling transparent, rejected, unappreciated, and empty. An open wound that became a scar became part of me. In an attempt to express those feelings that left me with marks and scars, I chose to explore used clothes through deconstructing, cutting, and tearing, thus, rearranging the clothes while preserving the memory they carry. I interfered with the original, typical design (of the used item of clothing) by introducing an interrupting element that emphasized the new shapes representing the feelings I experienced. The final garments carry the original and the deviation from it simultaneously, emphasizing that you remain yourself but change as a result of your experiences. Materials: cool wool, cotton, jeans. Working techniques: tearing, gathering, deconstructing and reconstructing, draping the shape and creating the volume directly on the body.
