My project focuses on a unique relationship between myself, my mother, and my grandmother - formed during my grandmother's process of falling ill and recovering from COVID-19. The act that supported her most was preparing and beautifully organizing fruits which we helped her eat rather frequently throughout the day to contribute to her health and keep her strong, mostly lychee, the fruit she especially loved. In my work process, I seek to express this connection through metaphors of relationship, nourishment, shell, and flesh. I draw inspiration from the shapes and colors of fruit, the body, and the analogy between them. The techniques I used to capture the texture and the essence of the fruit allowed me to create a series of jewelry and garments that represent ritualistic icons representing the connection between support, love, and the process of maturation from young to old and from body to soil. Materials | silver, copper, ruby stones and diamonds, glass powder, corset mesh. Working Techniques | sculpting in wax, metal casting, stone setting, traditional goldsmithing, enamel, shibori.
