Plant Sociology
“As we move from manicured gardens to free nature, where plants stand against the rain, the wind and even against each other, we realize that there is a rather complicated system joining each plant to the other and the environment, as written in books dealing with parallel science in humans.” Plants, as well as humans, are living organisms. Therefore we must have a commitment to learn from them and through them about the relationship of our belonging in the human environment. Through the gentle metaphor of plants, the book raises important issues both regarding the foreign and the local, how we accept foreign societies and whether it is possible to have an utopian society in which foreign and local unite with each other. The book seeks to illuminate our connections in human society together with the plant as not only a beautiful object to be admired, but also a theme of responsibility for our continued existence in the world.
