Remnant. Action
This project explores the routine work and objects of everyday household tasks; the cleaning, cooking, and feeding. By looking closely at the different tasks around the house, I have tried to gain a deeper understanding of my place as a woman and as an artist. I examine the tension between cleanliness and dirtiness, between food and leftovers and the connection of these objects to the body. In the video works the clay gathers and gives dirt its Sisyphean physical dimension creating new forms. By turning attention to unimportant leftovers and immortalizing them in clay, I try to see the beauty in them and to give them validity and meaning. Within the remains and leftovers lies a record of the smells and tastes with which the house was filled that day. Connected together they form a picture or a sketch. I look at this sketch in the bottom of the sink at the end of the day and I remember. Materials and techniques: Mixed media, video, sculpture, ceramic slip casting and dipping Dimensions: various, site-specific
