      Revitalizing The Rust Belt

How do you turn a heavy industry site into a new urban center? The project’s location is in one of Israel’s most polluted areas - the oil refineries (Bazan) in Haifa Bay. As of today there is discontinuity exhibited between sequences of the urban fabric, created by plants and other industrial sites in this area, which separates them from each other. The project’s goal is about gradual planning that within a period of thirty years (2023 – 2053) will enable turning this area from a polluting industrial plant’s site, disconnected from and alienated to the city of Haifa, to a new residential habitat which embraces the reuse of plant’s segments for the benefit of new urban centers. The nature of planning new structures and the development of urban centers of unique cultural identity reflect this goal.
