A sense of dissatisfaction with representational conventions led me to explore humanity - the elements that make us human and computerized representation, artificial. I created a digital human figure, carefully designed with thoght today’s visual culture and aesthetic appearance, that raises troubling questions. American former FBI agent Joe Navarro, who specializes in the psychology of nonverbal communication - the communication that occurs through subtle gestures that we aren’t necessarily conscious of - believes that this system, evolved over tens of thousands of years, is what sets humans apart. By thoroughly studying his differentiations, I was able to model and animate my virtual character, emphasizing small movements such as touching the nose, rocking from side to side, blinking - microgestures of a mind attempting to relieve stress and relax. Paradoxically, my work deals with optimal computerized representation of the human form. A series of ones and zeros, attempting to represent man in all his natural deformities - a series that is not just an act of opposition, but an invitation to discuss issues of representation and the essence of the leakage between man and machine.
